What's The Point?

For years, I believed that the media I consumed had no affect on me.

I am a human being, not a sheep, I have my own mind and I form my own opinions. Right?

Sure, I guess, but do you honestly think you aren't shaped by what you consume?

Someone once told me, your diet isn't just about what you eat, everything has an affect on you.

At the time, I thought it was crap, just like when my media teacher asked me to "dig a little deeper" looking at the mise en scène in movies, and making connections I thought were insane.

Like come on I really don't think they put that much thought into it, maybe you're reading too much into this Sir.

Then he made me do the work for my own film, writing out endless drafts of my script, the synopsis, the character's bios, storyboards, shot lists, strip boards, breakdown sheets, release forms, shooting schedules, the list goes on.

Once I started to put the work in myself I realised that this must be done for everything I watch, endless script drafts and story developments, extensive wardrobe and props lists and how all of this works together to create a reality which may look effortless, sure, but it isn't.

Everything you see has been constructed, nothing is real, they don't just rent out people's house's on the weekend and use a random bedroom, they create the bedroom around a character to create a believable reality we can get lost in.

I love getting lost in films and TV and not reading into it too much, but at the end of the day, I do believe the things I have watched have influenced me.

Some for the better and some for the worse, seriously blaming Damon Salvatore and The Vampire Diaries for my bad boy obsession.

I also have a completely different perspective and years of experience under my belt now so sure, hindsight is a beautiful thing, but it can take a while to get there and it can be hard to remember not everyone looks at things in the same light.

So here I will be digging a little deeper, looking at some of my favourite TV shows and movies and the realisations that have come to light when re-watching them.
